| 22 September (day 5) Warning, cross winds | Back to Latest News | ||
Sable O'Olonne - La Rochelle After a very nice breakfast we set off at 9:45 for the 70 mile cycle to La Rochelle. We had to stop after 5 miles for Hazel to have a pit stop and then Warren obviously found his legs as he set off at a fair old lick, managing to scatter the group over a wide area of France. Bill came a close second to Gary who managed to pip him to the post in the sprint for lunch where, once again, we were well fed and watered by Andy´s "Scran Van". After lunch Hazel set off in front for 5 miles before Brian and Chris took over for their share of the front-runner burden. Unfortunately no sooner had this happened than a crosswind picked up and we had to endure this all the way to La Rochelle. The streets to La Rochelle were closed for the local 60´s day so we had a long shortcut to find the hotel. Luckily we eventually found Andy´s van and a well earned rest. After a roam around the shops and bars of la Rochelle the evening culminated in a delightful meal quayside and finally Tom was able to fullfil his ambition to enjoy a sumptuous "fruits de mers". Quotes of the day: "The more you know the more you realise how little you know" (Gary) |
